The Lord Mayor of Canterbury, Cllr Harry Cragg cut the red ribbon to officially open the new and exciting project of Kent Enterprise Trust (KET), a local registered charity, on 6th October 2009. The project is a Community Enterprise Hub called Kent Enterprise House. It is a brand new, state of the art conference centre and hub providing serviced office space for charities, voluntary and community groups and social enterprises (collectively known as the third sector).
The Lord Mayor gave his backing to the project and highlighted the importance of the charity's work in providing employment and training opportunities to people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Income generated from renting the serviced office space, as well as hiring the conference centre and meeting rooms, will be ploughed back into delivering services to the community through projects such as Appleseed, a landscape and gardening service.
John Bland, CEO of KET stated "we are excited and proud of this new and enterprising project, being a charity ourselves we know the importance of reducing overheads and the hub is a wonderful solution offering a whole host of benefits such as the on-site conference facilities and meeting rooms. It really will save third sector organisations money and time and enable the opportunity for greater partnership working and sharing of knowledge and skills."
