So much of the food we eat nowadays is produced on intensive farms using high levels of agrochemicals – weedkillers, pesticides, fertilizers – and then shipped thousands of miles to the consumer.
At Boughton Mount Nursery, we want to get away from all that. Our locally produced, seasonal vegetables are grown without the use of artificial chemicals using a variety of techniques that maximise quality and yield without damaging the environment.
Our tomatoes, for example, are grown on hay bales that slowly compost throughout the growing season, releasing nutrients and warming the growing environment as they do so. Rainwater is harvested on the site and used in the irrigation system. As the site is further developed, we will introduce ‘grey’ water recycling to further reduce waste.
